Our Mission

At Reidsville Christian, our mission is simple and deeply rooted in the heart of Jesus: to create a place where people can belong in authentic community, believe in the saving grace of Christ, and become more like Him in every part of life.
We believe no one should have to earn a seat at the table. Here, you are welcomed before you are finished, loved before you are certain, and invited to grow one step at a time. Whether you are exploring faith, rebuilding it, or seeking to live it more fully, you are invited into a community that walks together - learning, worshiping, serving, and becoming who God created us to be.

A 320 Church

Sometimes you’ll hear us talk about being a “320 church.” That's not just a reference to our zip code (27320). It’s a reminder of who we are and what we believe at our core.

“Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us…” — Ephesians 3:20

We believe God is still that kind of God.
Over the years, “320” has marked key moments in our story - guiding us as we stepped out in faith, steadying us in uncertain seasons, and reminding us that God is present and able. “320” isn’t just something we say. It’s something we live. It shapes how we pray. How we trust. How we take our next steps.

Because whatever you may be carrying… whatever feels uncertain, overwhelming, or beyond you…

God is still able.

We choose to be that kind of church - a people who trust God for His “immeasurably more.”

Our Leadership

At Reidsville Christian, God and His Word are our ultimate authority. Under that authority, God has given us a leadership structure that helps the church stay healthy, focused, and moving forward in its mission.

Reidsville Christian is an elder-protected church. Our elders provide spiritual oversight, prayerful guidance, and long-range vision. They guard the doctrine, direction, and spiritual health of the church, ensuring that everything we do remains faithful to Christ and His Word.

Our church is also staff-led. The staff team leads the day-to-day ministry of the church - teaching, caring, organizing, and equipping - so that our mission is lived out in real and practical ways.

Simply put, we are staff-led and elder-protected - working together in unity to help people belong, believe, and become more like Jesus.

Shannon Newsome
Senior Minister

Shannon loves teaching God’s Word, hot dogs, anything pumpkin, the Cincinnati Reds, and Jesus (not necessarily in that order!). His favorite Bible story is Luke 7:36–50 (the account of Jesus’ feet being anointed), and his favorite verse is Ephesians 3:20. Shannon has been part of the Reidsville Christian staff since 1989. His greatest joy is helping people find their place in God’s story, experience God's grace, and take meaningful steps toward Him.

As Senior Minister since 1994, Shannon’s heart is to help shape a church that feels like home - a home with room for everyone - and points people clearly to Jesus. He and his wife, Kerri, have one son, Wyatt, who lives in Concord, NC, and they’re deeply grateful for the gift of raising him in one church home.

Keith Shimfessel
Worship Minister

Keith loves leading people to God through music and song, using his many gifts to help others encounter Jesus in meaningful ways. He has a deep heart for worship and a joy that’s contagious, whether he’s on the platform or behind the scenes. One of his favorite passages is Psalm 95:1–7, a reminder of the invitation and joy found in worship. When he’s not leading worship, you might find him at a Kansas concert, at Walt Disney World, or enjoying a really great cup of coffee.

Keith has been part of the Reidsville Christian family since 2007. He and his wife, Tammy, have two grown children, Kerry and Carly, and five grandchildren. His passion is to help create worship experiences that invite people to lift their eyes, open their hearts, and draw closer to God.

Mindy Goins
Children's Minister

Mindy loves peaches (because “Everything’s peachy!”), creativity, and bringing joy wherever she goes. She brings a fun, imaginative energy to our church—especially to our little ones—and has a unique gift for making children feel seen, safe, and excited to learn about Jesus.

Mindy is currently spending time in the book of Colossians, focusing on Paul’s prayers and expressions of thanksgiving. Her favorite verse is Colossians 3:23 - serving “with all my heart, for the Lord.” That mindset shows up in the way she leads, loves, and serves the children and families in our church.

Mindy has been a part of the Reidsville Christian family since 2003 and has served as our Children’s Minister since 2018. She and her husband, Louis, have three grown sons, Joseph, Dalton and Dillon. Mindy loves spending time with her family, especially her two grandchildren. Her heart is to help every child know they are deeply loved by God and that church is a place where they truly belong.

Betsy Darst
Youth & Connections Minister

Betsy loves mushrooms, slow trail walks, the color yellow, and people - especially her students (though her heart is big enough for everyone). She has a deep passion for helping young people discover who they are in Christ and how deeply they are loved. Betsy has a gift for creating safe, meaningful spaces where students can belong, ask honest questions, and grow in their faith.

One of Betsy’s favorite Bible stories is Luke 21:1–4, the account of the widow’s gift. A line from a worship song she loves - “I don’t have much, but I have a heart that beats for You” - captures her daily prayer to give God her all. Reidsville Christian is very dear to Betsy, and referencing one of her favorite verses, 1 Thess. 2:7-8, she is honored to share both the gospel and her life here.

Betsy has been a part of the Reidsville Christian family since 2011 and has served on staff since 2024. Her greatest joy is being a mom. She and her husband, Chad, have three children - Garrett, Morgan, and Huck.

Our Elders

These godly men serve as the spiritual shepherds of our church, following the biblical pattern for elder leadership. They lead with humility, prayer, and wisdom - guarding sound doctrine, caring for God’s people, and protecting the spiritual health and direction of our church.
